Some sessions just stick with you, and Mckenzy and Austin’s surprise proposal at Blithewold Mansion
in Bristol, Rhode Island is one I won’t forget anytime soon.
Austin reached out wanting help planning a proposal that felt intentional, intimate, and a little magical without being over-the-top. Blithewold was the perfect fit. The ocean views, the gardens in full summer bloom, and the quiet charm of the grounds made it feel like one of those places where time slows down a bit.
The proposal happened on the back patio overlooking the water, and Mckenzy truly had no idea what was coming. One minute they were taking in the view, the next minute Austin was down on one knee, and her reaction said everything. Those are the moments I live for as a Rhode Island engagement photographer.
After she said yes,
we turned the proposal into a full engagement session around Blithewold’s grounds. We wandered through the flower gardens, along shaded paths, and spent time near the stone archway, one of my favorite spots on the property. Nothing felt rushed. We talked, laughed, adjusted as we went, and let the session unfold naturally.
This is exactly how I approach engagement sessions:
a mix of gentle direction and letting you just be together. I’ll guide you when needed, but I’m never trying to force moments that don’t fit. The goal is photos that feel relaxed, connected, and easy... the kind you look back on and remember how it felt, not how posed it was.
Mckenzy’s green dress against the summer greenery was such a good choice! Soft, timeless without feeling formal, and it photographed beautifully in the filtered light. Austin kept things classic and comfortable, which always works best for sessions like this. When outfits feel like you, everything else falls into place.
I’m also so excited to say I’ll be photographing Mckenzy and Austin’s wedding next summer at The Villa in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and if this session was any indication, it’s going to be an incredible day.
